DRBFM Training Program

Transform your analysis process into a value added engineering tool that supports engineers to deliver Reliable Products and Processes.

Just imagine a company culture that is focused on adding value to the customer experience through continuous improvement.  A company that supports engineers by ensuring all time spent doing analysis is directly related to developing a design that meets requirements and customer expectations.  A company that makes product decisions based on engineering knowledge and engineering confidence in their design.  A company that is sought after based on market dominance in quality and reliability.

Design Review Based on Failure Modes (DRBFM) is a methodology focused on change management and continuous improvement. It centers on early identification and prevention of issues, meeting customer expectations and growth of engineering knowledge.  DRBFM is a focused process that supports an engineering mind-set and eliminates waste, such as debating rankings and mindless brainstorming.  DRBFM creates a quality culture where all activity supports the engineer.  Managers will feel confident in their decisions since they will be based on engineering evidence (data).

Transform your analysis process into a value-added engineering tool that supports engineers to deliver Reliable Products and Processes.

This DRBFM training program is intended for Automotive and Non-Automotive Applications. The course comprehends the industry best practices and organizes them into a disciplined and logical 4 Step DRBFM Process. The 4 Step DRBFM Process includes: Preparation, Change Point FMEA, Design Reviews, and Closure of Actions. Each of the process steps comprehends the needs of the engineer. Every detailed step defined in this course is something every engineer will normally do when completing their design. This training program is intended to provide an introduction and foundation of DRBFM for anyone who is interested in implementing part or all of the methodology. This course will provide management and engineers an introduction to the Toyota GD3methodology and company culture. This course also provides an overview of the GD3 methodology of Design Review Based on Test Results (DRBTR). The course comprehends the industry best practices and organizes them into a disciplined and logical 4 Step DRBFM Process – PLUS bonus examples of DRBFM analysis and preparation documents are provided! This course is intended for management and engineers in areas of: design, manufacturing, assembly, quality, service, packaging, material handling, supplier quality, maintenance, and reliability. This is a foundation training module and does not have required prerequisite training or experience.

This course is intended to provide training of process knowledge and techniques. At the end of this course you should be able to:

  • List the two processes that were connected to create DRBFM.
  • List the step by step DRBFM process (4 Step Process Map)
  • Define the engineer’s role in DRBFM
  • Define managements role in DRBFM
  • Define the meaning of GD3
  • Define the inputs and outputs of the Preparation Step (Step One)
  • Define types and levels of changes that will require DBRFM
  • Define the outputs from Step One (Preparation) that will be inputs into Step Two (Change Point FMEA)
  • Define the difference and connection between Step Two (Change Point FMEA) and Step Three (Design Review) and who owns each step
  • Define the connection between failure modes and causes within DRBFM
  • Define the value of FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) as an input to DRBFM
  • Define the difference between RPN in a DFMEA and Importance (Severity) in DRBFM
  • Define the difference between a DFMEA controls and a DRBFM counter-measures
  • Define the three types of actions within DRBFM and when they are necessary
  • Define the connection between DRBFM, DRBTR and GD3 methodology
  • Define when PFD (plant process flow diagrams) are used within the DRBFM process
  • Define the benefits of DRBTR (Design Review Based on Test Results)
  • Use the DRBFM process as a tool in an engineer’s daily activity

Prerequisites

This is a foundation training module and does not have required prerequisite training or experience.
