Design Review Based on Failure Modes (DRBFM) Credential Program

By | DRBFM | No Comments

The SAE DRBFM credentialing program was developed to support the growth of the methodology within all industries.  Companies that adopt DRBFM establish proficiency targets, as part of the implementation strategy, for management and engineers within the company and the supply base. The expectation of DRBFM proficiency can vary but most companies target a minimum of 3 levels.  The first is a beginner’s level of DRBFM knowledge that enables engineers, managers and suppliers the ability to participate in the methodology.  The next two levels, titles can vary but often called professional and expert, detail a more thorough understanding and usage of the DRBFM methodology.

The benefit of the DRBFM credentialing program is to provide knowledge of DRBFM expertise of the individual and company.  This information is important to companies who have internal proficiency targets or require their suppliers to perform DRBFM.  Companies should expect engineers and suppliers understand the fundamentals of the process and thereby reducing the amount of time required developing DRBFM projects.  SAE Credentialing has developed three programs of focus, Certificate of Competence for personnel interested in learning the fundamentals of DRBFM. The Professional Certification focuses on individuals who lead teams that apply DRBFM, and the Expert Certification focuses on individuals who can lead companies in DRBFM implementation and serve as DRBFM mentors.

A foundation of knowledge can be found in the SAE Ebook Design Review Based on Failure Modes (DRBFM) and Design Review Based on Test Results (DRBTR) Process Guidebook – [http://books.sae.org/book-pd251136].  There is also a new SAE J2886 DRBFM Recommended Practice recently published.  Go to my Home page (add url here) to determine if you would benefit from any of my DRBFM programs or would like to schedule a meeting to discuss how DRBFM could help your business.  Go to the SAE DRBFM Credentialing (http://training.sae.org/credentialing/drbfmprogram/) if you are interested in becoming certified in the DRBFM methodology.
